Spring Clean Your Body!

Hello Everyone!!

I hope that you have had a relaxing and joyous weekend, filled with lots of love and local strawberries! :) I have already devoured almost all of my strawberries, and I even bought a case of them! I am dreaming in red rubies with vibram slippers! I have a few more surprises coming up for us in the next two weeks, especially the second week of March in which I will be teaching an EAT IT RAW class at the Houston Arboretum! Although it feels like Spring, we are about three weeks away from the official first day of Spring. If you walk outside, you are kissed by the heat! It feels like Spring is already here!

We may still be transitioning into the Spring, but it is never too early to start a Spring cleaning in your body.? Now is the best time to begin cleaning out all of the winter gunk that you were storing up. Summer will be here before you know it, and is it so nice to be able to have your body in gear early in the season to have loads of fun!? I am sure that many of you have heard of the “flu” passing around or even a sniffle here or there; however, I truly believe that this is simply our bodies clearing out stored toxins. These detox reactions are good! So how does one Spring clean their body may you ask? There are several ways to do this…brace yourself, it’s time to get moving!

The first answer to this question is simple: eat as much raw as possible. The trick is not only what you eat, but it is also what you DO NOT eat. The more raw foods that you eat before each meal, the less you will want to eat of everything else. Every morsel that we put into our bodies has significance. On a cellular level, our body absorbs every chemical, organic or not. Each element is put to use in one form or fashion, and depending on which element that is, it can either be stored away as fat, or it can be used as immediate energy. Many of the raw foods that we consume have natural cleansing properties that keep up continuously detoxing. This can be a good thing because we are constantly surrounded by pollution, bad foods, etc. There is always something from which to detox, and this can include negative emotions as well. Many of you will cease this Spring cleaning opportunity to do a juice feast, and if you are in the place to do one, by all means, do one! Challenge yourself to do a green smoothie cleanse or even eat all raw for 30 days. You will be amazed at how fresh and light that you feel!

Secondly, health does not revolve fully around food. Exercise, sleep, and other physical activities play as just an important a role as food. I am sure that you have heard of this before, but sometimes it is nice to have a reminder every now and then. I run everyday rain or shine for at least 6-7 miles. Now that it has become a part of my daily routine, I cannot go a day without my run. I have made it fun for me, and I call it my “me time.” Many give the excuse that they do not have time; however, all it takes is simple planning along with execution. The better that you plan, the easier the execution. Prioritize the tasks that are most important to you, and plan them the night before so that you can easily whip them out the next day. You will be surprised at how much more you can pack in a day that is well-organized, and you will be amazed at how much energy that you have to accomplish these tasks when you eat better and feel physically ROC’N! Eating well and being physically fit dance together!

Thirdly, negative emotions can prove to be just as toxic as the foods that we eat. Therefore, eating vibrant colors and working on your mental, emotional, and spiritual health can be invigorating and reviving to your soul! If each day that you are living is not the best day ever, then you have work to do within yourself. Many find it difficult to live each day in simple gratitude; however, it is that appreciation that can feed us more zest for life. If being positive is the hardest thing for you to do, then perhaps start with eating better. Eating raw foods will naturally make you feel happier because when you eat the colors of the rainbow, you cannot help but feel happy! Energetically, you feel more vibrant from eating foods that are so nutrient rich. When you trigger your body to feeling better physically, the emotional aspect will only follow behind.

Emotional cleansing can be the most challenging aspect of getting healthy, but it is the one that will give you the willpower and the drive to achieve your finest dreams. Please keep in mind that we all have demons in our closets that we do not want to be carrying around; yet, we have done this unknowingly because it is what we were taught–we know no other way. These demons are the ones that keep us too scared to change and that keep us in perpetual self-sabotaging habits of overeating, under-eating, bad eating, self deprivation, negative self-talk, etc. If you are willing to explore this aspect of yourself, you may find that all of these negative emotions want to escape from your body anyways! All of your problems, no matter how escalated you believe them to be, have a solution. You hold the key to this solution, and only you can make the necessary steps to create the life that you seek. You feel much lighter after you begin to clear out the emotional goo, and you become a brighter beacon of light for others!

Lastly, do not forget to enjoy life! Spend more time in nature, with yourself, with your loved ones, or even laughing at your own jokes. Life is too short not to enjoy each and every second that passes. You never know when you will have an opportunity to spread joy to others, so simply make living joyfully a priority. If you like to read, make time to read. Time is gold, and if you have very little of it (like me!), then cherish the moments that you have to indulge in the things that you want to do. All of life is a blessing, and when you feel these blessings, they multiply in your life. Multiply your blessings, multiply health, multiply love, multiply joy, and multiply your zest for life!!!
